FMS Protocol for Trunk Stability Push-up

IBJI Therapists Tara and Carol show how to perform the Stability Push-up. When conducting this test give the following instructions;

  • athlete lies prone
  • hands are shoulder width apart
  • for women they are in line with chin, for men they are in line with forehead
  • Tell athlete "raise your toes towards your shin and place them on the ground. Extend your knees off the ground. Maintain a rigid torso. Raise yourself as one unit with no lag in th elow back into a push-up position)

Scoring:

3 = Good 

  • Males perform one rep with thumbs in line with forehead
  • Females perform one rep with thumbs in line with chin

2 = Fair

  • Males perform one rep with thumbs in line with chin
  • Females perform one rep with thumbs in line with clavicle

1 = Poor

  • Males are unable to perform one rep with hands in line with chin
  • Females are unable to perform one rep with thumbs in line with clavicle

0 = Pain with anything
